Materials Science and Engineering department,
University of Florida
Hi folks! I am Shalini Jayaraman Rukmani, doctoral student in the Materials Science and Engineering department at the University of Florida. I am a new member of ASHA and heard about it from my friends. I am a strong believer in the quote “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire”. Education shapes an individual giving us the power to differentiate between good and bad and work for the betterment of the society. Asha comprises of motivated individuals who contribute towards making this change by providing financial aid for the education of underprivileged children in India. I am looking forward to having a great time being a part of this organization.
I was a decent sprinter during my school days and actively participated in inter-school running and kho-kho tournaments. However, I didn’t seriously pursue running after that. Long distance running was something I never tried before. Inspired by several marathons where people run for a cause, I decided to give it a shot and the Gate River Run 2018 sounded like a perfect opportunity. With the guidance of experienced runners in Team Asha, I have been able to practice and gradually improve myself with time and hope to make a good debut in this marathon – being a part of running to raise funds for education, what can be more beautiful!
“Little drops make a mighty ocean” – Your contribution will go a long way in illuminating the lives of many many children who are enthusiastic and eager to learn.
