Ph.D. Student, Immunology and Microbiology at University of Florida
I am a Ph.D. student in Immunology and Microbiology department at University of Florida. Other than spending most of my time and life in lab doing research I love to do outdoor activities and learn something new. Moving to a new place is always difficult to adapt. I moved to Florida in mid of hot and humid summer 2016, where I didn’t know anyone. After a month, I came across Florida chapter of “Asha for Education, bringing hope through education”, a non-profit organization. I joined the Team Asha running group which is part of Asha UFlorida. Team Asha members are dedicated to get trained and run various marathons to raise funds. All the funds raised by Asha UFlorida is used to help educating the underprivileged children of India. The group is very transparent and have won the award for the best non-profit organization.
I never participated in any running events and always thought it’s not my cup of tea. But when I came to know that by participating in marathon and running I can help many underprivileged kids in my home country I got motivated. The idea itself encouraged me to get trained, participate and run for a bigger and better cause. Last year I participated in the 2017 Gate River Run and finished 15k in 2hr and 10 mins. That was the first official run of my life. This year I am participating in this run again with a promise to finish the 15k in less than 2 hours. I also pledged to raise $1000.
The Great River run 15k 2018 is my second official run and I want to request all of you to support and help me raise funds to achieve my pledged target amount. Your donation will help thousands of underprivileged children in India to get better education. Even the spare pocket change from you will help change someone’s life.
