I am currently a final year Ph.D. student in the Materials Science & Engineering department at Cornell University / University of Florida. I spent most of my childhood in Pune, India before earning my Bachelors degree from IIT Madras and moving to Cornell University for graduate school.
My Running Experience:
I have loved playing and watching sports ever since I was a kid, but it wasn’t until I started grad school that I took up running as a hobby. It began as a means to staying fit, but soon I found myself running more and enjoying it even more.
After moving to Gainesville, FL in early 2015, I decided to run my very first race, the Gate River Run 15K. I spent two months training for it and I remember crossing the finish line with a huge smile on my face. From then on, I’ve never looked back. Running slowly became a passion, and the time I invested in running went up. I ran 5Ks and half marathons, I ran alone and with friends, early in the mornings and sometimes even late at night. I slowly got faster and the goals I set for myself kept getting bigger. I’m currently planning to train for and run my first full marathon later this year, and if everything goes well, I will attempt to run a Boston-qualifying time at that race.
Over the past two years, one thing I’ve always wanted to do is to run for a cause and help those members of our society who aren’t as fortunate as we are. Running has given me a lot, and it’s time for me to give something back.
With this in mind, I will be running Gate River Run ’17 to raise funds for the education of underprivileged children in India. Education is a basic necessity for all but there are many of us who can’t afford a single meal, let alone paying for school. A simple gesture from our side can go a long way in shaping the lives of these young children. I hope you can help me in my effort by donating to this cause. Any amount, big or small, will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your support.
