Ph.D.Student, University of Florida
I am a Ph.D. student in the biomedical sciences program at University of Florida. I completed my Master’s degree at Madras University in Chennai, India. I came to Gainesville in 2012 and I have been associated with Gators for Asha since 2013. Team Asha is an amazingly active group that supports the education of underprivileged children back in India. I have always had the urge to give back to the society and this organization is helping me start that journey.
I was never a runner when I was in India except for those sports day celebrations we had in our school. When I came to Gainesville, I started running with the Team Asha running group and I slowly started to enjoy it. With Gainesville’s weather and an awesome group, why not! It started as a physical exercise to keep myself healthy and fit and now, here I am, doing my third Gate River Run on March 11, 2017. The Gate River Run at Jacksonville is the largest 15K race in the US and we, Asha UFlorida do it as a part of fundraising efforts to support the education of underprivileged children in India. I am training hard for this run and hoping you will support me in helping a child’s dream of education come true.
Education is a basic human right. Most of us are very fortunate to have a family and a good support system to take care of our needs and all basic resources that are essential for our education. But there are millions of children in India who are less fortunate than most of us and whose parents cannot afford to pay for their education. So these kids end up having no access to their basic right to education. I feel that it is the responsibility of each one of us to help improve this situation and bring a change in the lives of these children.
Asha for Education is a non-profit organization with several chapters around the world and Asha UFlorida supports various projects in India that help underprivileged children to get access to basic education. As a part of the fundraising efforts, I am running my third 15k Gate River Run on March 11th 2017. Any little contribution from you will bring hope and happiness in the lives of many children. I am doing my part and I hope you will help and support me in continuing this journey. For those of you who always wanted to give back to the society, here’s a chance. Little drops of water make a mighty ocean and so any contribution from you will be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your support.
